Logo Usage

Certificate and Logo Usage

This page summarizes the rules that organizations certified by YBM must follow when using management system audit certificates and the registered trademarks and logos of YBM and its accreditation body. The rules apply to all clients certified by YBM and are based on Procedure P-16 Certificate and Logo Usage (Rev. 10).

Certificate Usage Rules

Upon successful completion of the certification process, a certificate is issued containing the scope of application, address and the standard subject to the audit. The following must be observed when using the certificate:

  • The client may use the certificate on promotional materials, correspondence and advertisements only with the scope and address stated on the certificate.
  • Printed documents, the internet and advertising materials must make clear that only the management system is certified; they must not imply that a product or service is certified.
  • No misleading statements regarding certification are permitted, nor may the certification document or any part of it be used in a misleading manner.
  • The management system audit certificate is valid for three years, provided surveillance audits are concluded successfully.
  • If certificates are suspended, withdrawn or cancelled by YBM, all advertising activities referring to certification must cease.
  • The certificate does not exempt the client from complying with legal requirements.
  • The certificate may not be used in a way that damages the reputation of YBM or the certification system, or that undermines public trust.
  • When the scope of certification is reduced, all advertising materials must be revised.

Use of YBM and Accreditation Body Logos

Clients issued a certificate are provided with the YBM and accreditation body logos. The following rules apply:

  • The YBM logo may be used alone; the accreditation body logo may only be used together with the YBM logo and never alone. The IAF logo may under no circumstances be used by the client, either alone or together with the YBM logo.
  • Logos are used together with the client's name and address details.
  • Logos must be reproduced on a contrasting background so they are clearly distinguishable, in a manner preserving their integrity, and at a size at which all their features are clearly visible.
  • Accreditation body logos may not be larger than, or placed separately from, the YBM logo.
  • During surveillance audits the client must show auditors examples of where the logos are used (internet, documents, brochures, advertisements, etc.).
  • Guides and documents on the use of accreditation body logos remain fully applicable (TÜRKAK Guide R-10.06, IAF ML 2 IAF MLA).
  • Certified clients must use the logos and accompanying text without any ambiguity as to what is certified and as to the YBM mark. Type labels and identification plates are considered part of the product; the wording must in no way imply that a product, process or service is certified. The wording must refer to:
    • Identification of the certified client (e.g., brand or name),
    • The type of management system (e.g., quality, environment) and the applicable standard,
    • The YBM mark.
  • Logos may not be applied to laboratory test, calibration or inspection reports.
  • The client may not use management system certification marks or statements on a product or its packaging, or in any way that could be understood as denoting product conformity (printing, labelling, etc.). This is explicitly stated in the Certification Service Agreement (F-030).

Logo Usage in Aerospace Certification (AS9100 / IAQG)

  • The relevant accreditation body symbol is included on the AQMS certification document; other symbols may include the RMS or SMS logos. The IAQG logo may be used as an alternative to the RMS or SMS logo.
  • The IAQG logo may be used only by YBM, on certification documents, in the format(s) and colours provided by the IAQG OPMT; it may not be modified or re-coloured in any way. It may be resized to fit the certification document.
  • The IAQG logo may not be given greater prominence than any other symbol or logo on the certification document.
  • The IAQG logo may not be used on any other unauthorized conformity assessment body document, nor may it be used by YBM's clients.

Misuse and Sanctions

  • If logos and certificates are used contrary to these rules, YBM determines and initiates the necessary sanctions. These may include requesting corrective action, suspension or withdrawal of certificates, publication of the violation and, where necessary, legal action. The client is notified of all actions in writing.
  • Upon cancellation of the certification agreement, the client must stop using YBM certificates and logos and, if requested, return the certificate to YBM.
  • The YBM logo is a trademark registered with the Turkish Patent Institute. Unauthorized use by third parties will result in legal action under the Turkish Commercial Code.
